Travelling Homopaths Collective
Created in the summer of 1990 to provide a Mobile Homoeopathic Clinic and to promote Homoeopathy at festivals, fayres and other outdoor events. The Collective is made up of Qualified, Registered and Insured Homoeopaths who agree to follow a code of practice.
All our practitioners work on a voluntary basis and the Collective, as a whole, is a non-profit making organisation. All donations received go towards maintenance, travel expenses, and the further promotion of Homoeopathy.
We offer a Homoeopathic Clinic treating Acute conditions, such as hay fever, sun stroke, sunburn, digestive upsets, coughs, colds, etc. (which are all common occurrences at such events), as well as offering advice and support for people who have chronic or more long term disorders/dis-eases. We want to broaden the general understanding of Homoeopathy, and to show people that there are alternatives to mainstream medicine.
We treat thousands of people every year at many festivals, including Glastonbury (where 20 practitioners work in shifts over an eighteen hour day), Phoenix, Cambridge Folk Festival, Earth Spirit Camps, and The Big Green Gathering.
Homopathy is a form of medicine that has existed in its present form for over two hundred years but which has its roots in more ancient ideas.
It respects the efforts that the body makes to counter disease and instead of fighting these efforts it offers support and encouragement. It does this by matching the remedy's effect to the actions that the body is already taking through the symptoms of the disease.
Homopaths have available several thousand remedies whose actions have been observed through clinical practice and through provings, in which healthy volunteers take the remedies and carefully observe their effect.
It is important that the picture of the patient's illness and the known picture of the remedy match as closely as possible. It is therefore recommended that you see a well trained homopath who has a solid understanding of remedies and of how illness is expressed in patients.
It is also important that the homopath has the opportunity to follow the course of your treatment and adjust it as circumstances change.
There are a number of remedies that work very well in acute situations. The best known of these is probably Arnica which can treat the bruising and shock of an injury with remarkable speed and efficiency. Remedy kits are available and books such as "The Complete Homeopathy Handbook" by Miranda Castro mean that it is quite possible to treat minor ailments and accidents yourself very quickly and effectively.
Animals, like children, react very well to homoeopathic remedies. Only vets are allowed to treat animals in this country and unfortunately there are very few homopathic vets around. However, with a little research and advice it is often possible to find a remedy that will help all sorts of conditions.
As well as offering treatment for specific ailments your homopath will often be able to give you information and advice on general health matters, such as diet and vaccinations.
Examples of Acute Materia Medica
Homopathy always treats the person rather than the disease. However, in many acute situations the disease is overpowering and may even become the most important thing about the person at the time. In these situations "specific" remedies, especially if they resonate with the underlying nature of the patient, can be very effective. The following are some of the remedies that the Collective has frequently used to great effect.
